Beyoncé Rewrites Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ Lyrics in her New Album ‘Cowboy Carter’

Beyoncé Rewrites Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ Lyrics in her New Album ‘Cowboy Carter’

Legendary singer-songwriter Dolly Parton accurately hinted that Beyoncé would sample or interpolate her 1973 classic “Jolene” for her new album “Cowboy Carter.” Beyoncé has done just that; she altered the song’s lyrics and structure to deliver a fiery cover on her album. Parton teased the cover on her Instagram, urging fans to listen to the original. The album also features a cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” and interpolations from various artists. “Cowboy Carter,” released on 29 March, follows Beyoncé’s surprise Super Bowl singles release, inspired by feeling unwelcome after a controversial performance at the 2016 CMAs with the Dixie Chicks.
