The Los Angeles Lakers wanted to hire Dan Hurley, an American college basketball coach who led UConn to back-to-back NCAA national titles, as their next coach. The Lakers offered him a lucrative long-term deal in front of Hurley’s six-year $32 million contract with UConn last year. The Lakers want to have a preliminary discussion with the coach, who talked about his ambition in the NBA. But the team has yet to make a formal offer. Hurley is known for his ability to develop players and tactical prowess, making him the Lakers’ top pick in replacement for Darvin Ham. Ham was dismissed in May after the team lost in the first round of the playoffs.
