In a new court filing, American actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie alleges that her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, was abusive to her before their 2016 plane accident.
Jolie’s lawyers claimed that Pitt’s history of physical abuse started before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles. It was the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well.
After the incident, Jolie immediately left him.
Jolie’s lawyers also claimed that Pitt refused to let her sell her share of their French winery, Château Miraval unless she agreed to a more extensive non-disclosure agreement (NDA). According to Jolie, this ongoing legal battle could have been avoided if Pitt had accepted her offer to buy her share, but he insisted on the NDA.
Pitt’s representatives declined to comment on these allegations, calling it a pattern of distraction. However, Jolie’s team claimed that Pitt’s insistence on the NDA is linked to his alleged abusive behavior and his desire to keep sealed documents from their custody battle private.
Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, stated that Pitt’s refusal to purchase her interest in the winery unless she agreed to the NDA raised questions about his motivations and the importance of silencing her.
The legal battle stems from Pitt’s lawsuit against Jolie for selling her half of the winery without his consent, which he claims jeopardized the business’s reputation. Despite Pitt not being charged following investigations into the abuse allegations, Jolie’s team asserts she chose not to press charges, hoping Pitt would take responsibility and assist the family in recovering from the trauma.
