‘It Came From Outer Space’ and ‘Peyton Place’ Actress Barbara Rush Dies at 97

Barbara Rush, the prolific actress who won a Golden Globe Award for her role in the 1953 American Science fiction film “It Came From Outer Space,” passed away on Sunday. Rush’s daughter, Cowan Rush, announced the news of her demise but didn’t reveal the cause of death. 

Cowan said Rush passed away peacefully at 5:28 pm. She was with her mother this morning and knew she was waiting for her to return home safely to transition. Cowan added that her mother chose to leave on Easter as it was one of her favorite holidays. 

Barbara Rush was born on 4 January 1927 in Denver, Colorado. The passing of the legendary American actress followed a career that spanned seven decades with many memorable roles. 

In 1950, she made her movie debut with a role in “The Goldbergs.” She then appeared in “When Worlds Collide” and “Flaming Feather.” In 1953, Rush gained first recognition after taking a lead role in the classic Sci-fi horror movie “It Came From Outer Space,” for which she also won a Golden Globe Award. 

Her other prominent works include “Kiss of Fire,” “The Black Shield of Falworth,” “Harry Black and the Tiger,” “Hombre,” “The Man,” “Summer Lovers,” “Can’t Stop the Music” and “Robin and the 7 Hoods.”

Beyond her film career, Rush also appeared in various prominent television series, including “Peyton Place.” She appeared in a variety of other notable shows, such as “Night Gallery,” “She Wrote,” “Knight Rider,” “The Outer Limits,” “Fantasy Island,” “The Bionic Woman” and many more.   

Barbara Rush’s remarkable talent, dedication, and grace will be fondly remembered and cherished by generations to come.
