A viral AI-generated image that reads “All eyes on Rafah” has been shared over 44 million times on Instagram after a series of deadly Israeli airstrikes in Rafah that claimed the lives of several people.
The image showing a vast expanse of tents set against a desert backdrop, with imposing mountains in the distance, emerged as a piercing symbol amid the mounting international condemnation of civilian deaths in Rafah.
Celebrities worldwide, including Chilean-American actor Pedro Pascal and prominent models Bella and Gigi Hadid, shared the image on their social media handles, joining the viral campaign.
Numerous Indian actors were also seen sharing the image on their Instagram. However, they faced a lot of backlash from their fans for supporting the Palestinian campaign, which also triggered the hashtag #boycottbollywood.
Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit shared “All eyes on Rafah” on Instagram stories but quickly removed it after several social media users criticized her for doing so.
Beyond Instagram, “All eyes on Rafah” is also trending on other social media platforms, particularly on X(Twitter), where #alleyesonrafah hashtag gained significant traction.
In response to this viral AI-generated image, Israeli authorities countered by sharing their own social media initiative. They posted a picture that reads “what your eyes fail to see,” shedding light on the hostages held by Hamas following the 7 October attacks.
