They also pray for comfort for Murray’s loved ones. Monahan spoke with his parents to offer condolences. He said “Murray was a remarkable player and a courageous man.”
Who was Grayson Murray?
Born on 1 October 1993, in Raleigh, North Carolina, US, Murray was an American professional golfer. He started playing golf in his teenage years. Murray won three straight Callaway Junior Championships and was considered a top-ranked golfer at a very young age.
In 2017, Murray earned his first PGA Tour victory by winning the Barbasol Championship. During the 2023 season, he won the AdventHealth Championship and the Simmons Bank Open at the Korn Ferry Tour.
These achievements earned him a tour card for the 2024 PGA Tour season. On 14 January 2024, Murray won the Sony Open, hitting a wedge to three feet for birdie on the final hole to get into a playoff and winning it with a 40-foot putt, earning him a second PGA Tour victory.
Last week at the PGA Championship, Murray was no. 58 in the world rankings. He also made his Masters debut, finishing 51st, and was in the field for the US Open next month.
The golfer had dealt with alcohol and mental health issues in the past. But in January, Murray admitted that he had been sober for eight months. He had become a Christian and felt his best golf was ahead of him. Murray also caught attention for openly criticizing other players and getting into a social media spat.
Grayson Murray’s untimely death has left the golf world mourning the loss of a talented and spirited player who had much more to give both on and off the course. His legacy will be remembered for his triumphs and the challenges he courageously faced.
