Larry Allen, an American professional football player who played for the Dallas Cowboys as a guard, passed away on Sunday. According to reports, he died suddenly on a family vacation in Mexico. 

The Dallas Cowboys paid him the tribute; “Allen was one of the most respected, and accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His great athleticism, incredible strength and versatility were also signature parts of his career.” 

“Allen continued to inspire many other players as a great teammate, competitor, and winner,” Cowboys added. Allen’s daughters, Jayla and Loriana, and son Larry III said, “Their father was deeply loved and cared by their mother, Janelle.” 

Who was Larry Allen?

Born on 27 November 1971 in Los Angeles, California, Allen was a retired NFL player. He was raised in Crompton, California, and had a troubled childhood there. Allen almost died at six weeks old after contracting meningitis. 

He was stabbed 12 times in the head, shoulder, and neck at the age of 10 while trying to protect his brother. He changed schools every four years of high school. Allen didn’t complete his graduation, but somehow, he made his way to the professional game through community college. 

He played college football for the Sonoma State Cossacks and was a second-round pick for the Cowboys in the 1994 draft. Allen was declared one of the physically strongest players ever, and he was capable of using his speed against defenders. 

Throughout his first 12 seasons with the Cowboys, he earned ten Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors. He also won a Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XXX. He received his 11th Pro Bowl selection in his final two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. 

In 2013, Allen was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Larry Allen’s life and career are a testament to resilience and excellence, leaving an indelible mark on the sport and inspiring countless players.
